2008: A Year Of Growth
A Practical Plan For Personal And Congregational Growth In 2008

Maturity

†  In an effort to bring glory to our Creator, we will grow in…

Our Level Of Spiritual MATURITY

Throughout the months of April, May, and June, we will develop together in our awareness of the need to “grow up” as disciples of Jesus by working on our perspective toward the things of this world and the most important aspects of life.

“So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all  slander.  Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation.”

- 1 Peter 2:1-2

As a disciple seeking to put the kingdom of heaven first, I can:

 ·  Grow in my knowledge and appreciation of God’s word by...

      - ...conducting personal/family Bible studies at home (Psalm 1:2).

      - ...following our “Book of the Month” program (2 Timothy 2:15).

      - ...participating in our congregational Bible classes (Acts 2:42).

·  Discover a deeper level of communication with God by...

            - ...devoting 15 minutes of each day to prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

            - ...using the bulletin as a weekly prayer list (James 5:16).

            - ...spending time in fervent prayer with my brethren (Acts 2:42).

·  Refine my perspective on the things of this world by...

            - ...honestly evaluating my priorities (Luke 8:14).

            - ...assessing the use of my material blessings (Luke 12:13-21).

            - ...purging the clutter of life that is hindering me (1 Timothy 6:6-10).

·  Experience a closer walk with God by...

            - ...honestly identifying my bad habits (2 Corinthians 13:5).

            - ...humbly confessing my sins and shortcomings (James 5:16).

            - ...diligently seeking divine wisdom and guidance (James 1:5).

One indispensable step toward spiritual maturity is consistently feeding ourselves with God’s word.  To help us become better Bible readers and students, throughout 2008 we will use a “Book of the Month” approach.  Each month, a new reading schedule will be made available that is focused on a specific section of God’s revelation to us.

January:  Matthew — Coming Of The Kingdom Of Heaven

February:  Acts — Sequel To The Greatest Story Ever Told

March:  Genesis — In The Beginning, God

April:  Mark — Jesus At Work

May:  Exodus — Following The P.A.T.H. Of God

June:  Psalms — 30 Psalms In 30 Days

July:  Judges — The Cycles Of Human History

August:  Proverbs — God’s Guidebook For Wise Living

September:  1 Samuel — Give Us A King!

October:  2 Samuel — Chronicles Of A Man After God’s Heart

November:  Ezra & Nehemiah — Let Us Rise Up And Build!

December:  Romans — Thoughts On God’s Power To Save

In order to “equip the saints” and avoid being “carried about by every wind of doctrine,” we will study together in the 2nd quarter of 2008:

·  How to “train” ourselves for godliness

·  The pathway to a deeper relationship with our heavenly Father

·  The importance of uncluttering our minds and lives

·  The need to surrender our grips on the things of this world

·  The pitfalls of hypocrisy

·  The dangers of modern-day idolatry

·  The essential place of modesty in the lives of Christians

·  Calvinism as a false system of belief
