Honor

"so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him " (John 5:23).
In the midst of this graduation season, you might just get invitations or announcements that say things like, "Join us as we honor…" or "Join us in honoring". The word honor is a very common choice for the verb that describes how we should recognize the accomplishments of those graduating. But what does that mean?
In the sense of one graduating, you honor them by attending an event in their name. You go to their home or some other meeting place, and focus your attention on them, on their day. You set aside a period of time for them.
As seen in the verse above, we are to honor the Father and the Son. In the same way, we honor them by setting aside a time to focus on them. You may or may not have gotten an invitation for the event, but regardless, it is still your duty. Our worship services are a period where we can set a time aside and focus on Him and His accomplishments.
It wouldn’t be very appropriate to attend a graduation party and talk about your self in front of everyone. Similarly, it’s inappropriate to attend a worship service under the guise of worshipping God, and talk or think about yourself and the things that you have going on. Let us try this day to really set aside our time and our attention for our awesome creator!
