God Is The Gospel

There is a fine line between God-cherishing gratitude and gift-cherishing idolatry.  We must always be thankful for God’s great gifts, but we must make sure that we do not make those gifts into god.  This lesson encourages the asking of some basic questions.  Where do the desires of my heart find their ultimate resting point?  Am I guilty of simply using God for my own selfish gains?  What is the greatest, highest, ultimate good of the gospel?  What is God’s most precious gift?

The Glory Of God In The Gospel

Take a Look Around

Good morning.  Thanks for being here today.  Everyone here knows that there are a million different things that you could be doing right now.  But the important thing is that you’re doing the one thing that matters most: paying attention to spiritual things.

Do me a favor and take a look around you.  What you’ll likely see is a big group of people.  Some of the people are young, others middle-aged, and even others older than that.  If you keep looking, you’ll notice that we’re comprised of different racial groups too.  After talking to many of us, you’ll probably pick up on the fact that we have different kinds of jobs, make different amounts of money, and come from different parts of the country.

Now, if you ask the right questions or listen long enough, you’ll notice something really important–we’re all sinners.  In fact, that is what brings us together.  All of those other details, yeah, they make a difference in who we are, but that last detail is important because it means we’re all the same.  What that means for you, is that you fit in here just fine.

Sometimes it may not seem like you have a lot in common with the person sitting next to you or across the room, but you have the same purpose in life, the same responsibility to your God, and best of all, you have the same Savior.

So, please, take a moment and take a look around.  You’ll see a group of people interested in spiritual things, and believe it or not, a group of people interested in you.  So get to know them!  That’s a big part of why we’re here!
