Our Purpose

At Laurel Canyon, we have clear objectives taken straight from the pages of God’s Word. Our aim is to serve and glorify our Creator by:

† Worshiping Him in spirit and truth (John 4:24)

† Providing a family atmosphere of spiritual sharing, love, and unity (Acts 2:42-47)

† Nurturing and supporting each member (1 Corinthians 12:12-31)

† Growing together towards spiritual maturity (Ephesians 4:11-16)

† Living God-centered lives of good influence in all that we say and do (Matthew 5:13-16)

† Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ by speaking the truth in love (Matthew 28:18-20)

These principles form the core of what we stand for and exist to accomplish.

We recognize that much of what is passed off today as “Christianity” is neither Christ-centered, nor pleasing to God. The church has been reduced in many places to little more than a social club, political action committee, or welfare society. Yet the Lord has given a blueprint for the church (2 Timothy 1:13) and Christians who take His Lordship seriously will abide by this pattern: “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Colossians 3:17). At Laurel Canyon, we are dedicated to growing in our understanding of the pattern for New Testament Christianity and abiding by it.

In truth, far too many churches are interested in appealing to the masses in every way possible, giving people whatever they want to entice them to attend, and growing larger in size, whatever the cost. The agenda of “big numbers” has taken precedence over doing as Jesus instructs through the New Testament. At Laurel Canyon, pleasing Him is more important than pleasing people. If you are looking for a group of Christians who are serious about studying the Bible and doing as it teaches, then you will find a home with the Laurel Canyon church of Christ.
