An evangelist or preacher is a proclaimer of the good news of Jesus Christ (Eph 4:11; 2 Tim 4:1-5). In New Testament times, the evangelist was willing to preach publicly and “from house to house” (Acts 5:42). To do the work of an evangelist (2 Tim 4:5) is to declare the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27), to proclaim the “good news” of the kingdom of heaven (Acts 28:30-31), and to speak the truth in love (Eph 4:15).
Our evangelist, Joshua Welch was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1979. Joshua comes from a family of gospel preachers with a grandfather (Robert), father (John), uncle (Robert Hines) and cousin (John Hines) who all have served as preachers and elders of churches throughout the United States. Joshua has one sister, a twin brother and a younger brother; Elizabeth Ruwe, David and Nathanael. He has been married since 2002 to Johnna Welch and they have three children together—Samuel (2003), Zoe (2005), and Hadassah (2007).
In addition to preaching, Joshua grew up doing landscape work for his family’s landscaping company. He has worked as the field manager for his family’s U-Pick blueberry farm in Indianapolis, a substitute teacher and currently is licensed as an insurance agent to aid in supporting his family. He enjoys time with his family and has coached youth basketball, soccer and softball for his children’s teams over the years.
Joshua has done gospel meeting and lectureship work in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, New York, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin. In 2017, he took his first overseas preaching trip to the island of Barbados. In addition, he has hosted call-in radio programs for the churches in Indianapolis and Kokomo and now works as associate editor of Faith and Facts Quarterly. He has been a contributing author to several publications: With All Boldness, Biblical Insights, GROW magazine. He hopes to publish more Bible-based material in the near future. Joshua began working as the full-time evangelist at the Courtland Avenue church of Christ in Kokomo, Indiana and preached there from 2002-2017. He began his work at the Laurel Canyon Church of Christ in Columbus, Ohio in January of 2018.
