Thinking of Jesus as Jesus Described Himself

He Who Searches Mind and Heart

It's important that our conception of Jesus is shaped, not by ourselves or the cloudy conjectures of our fellow inhabitants of the 21st century, but by the written revelation of God.

"I am he who searches mind and heart, and I will give to each of you according to your works." That's how Jesus described himself in Revelation 2:23. We ought to think of him in those terms today.

Jesus is a searcher. He is alive, never to die again. He cares. He is active. He knows your mind. He is aware of every facet of your heart. He has promised to hold us accountable for our works.

Those characteristics of the glorified Christ ought to humble us. They are designed to create sobriety of mind within us. They are revealed that we might fearfully acknowledge our desperate need for a Savior and work to similarly persuade others. His words have been preserved that we might seek first his kingdom and his righteousness.

"I am he who searches mind and heart, and I will give to each of you according to your works." That being the case, there ought to be no one we are more concerned about pleasing than Jesus. Allow his self-description in Revelation 2:23 to move, shape, and sustain you today.
