In the religious world around us, many believe in what is called the perserverance of the saints.  They maintain that once a person is saved, it is impossible for him to fall away, that from the moment of his initial salvation, he is guaranteed a place in heaven.  This way of thinking inevitable minimizes the good works that God expects His people to do after they are saved.
