"Whose Son is He?"

Matthew’s text says, “While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, ‘What do you think about the Christ?  Whose Son is He?” (Matthew 22:41-42).   The specific question here is not just to probe the Pharisees’ opinions about Jesus.  Instead, it intended to be a question concerning the genealogy of Jesus.  To this question, the Pharisees might have offered several different answers.
