Source text 2 Peter 1:1-10

Learning from the wisdom of the Holy Spirit given through the words of Simon Peter, let’s look again into 2 Peter 1:1-10.

In verse5 & 6 he says, “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue (excellence) and virtue with knowledge and knowledge with _______   _____________.

What else are we to strive to add to our faith?

• Knowledge
• Self Control
• ________________________
• ________________________
• ________________________
• ________________________

Joseph in Genesis 39, David in 1 Samuel 24, & Jesus in Matt. 4 & Luke 23 are all great role models for self control!

Additional verses about Self Control:

2 Peter 1:5-7 - But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

James 1:19-20 - So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

Ecclesiastes 7:9 - Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Proverbs 25:28 - Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls. (Proverbs 25:28)

1 Corinthians 9:27 - But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should 
become disqualified. 

Titus 2:11-14 - For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Proverbs 13:3 - He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.
