Jesus Is Greater Than

Introduction:

(Underlined portions below where left blank in printed outline)

G.O.A.T stand for the Greatest Of All Time.  Some may argue about who was the greatest athlete, artist, scientist, or President of all time.  But, in the spiritual realm there is Once who claimed to be the G.O.A.T. -- Jesus Christ   He claimed it though comparison, three times in the text of Matthew 12 and I would like to call your attention to those things "Jesus Is Greater Than..."

I.  Jesus is Greater Than The Temple (Matthew 12:6)

  • To understand the significance of the statement of Jesus in Matthew 12, we must understand how highly the Jews treasured their  temple  structure (Ezra 3:11-12; Mark 13:1-2).
  • Yet, God never wanted us to become so enamored with a  physical  structure we began thinking He can only work within its confines (2 Samuel 7:5-9; John 4:19-24,; Acts 17:32-35)
  • When we realize Jesus is far greater than any physical structure a few things about our service to God will recognizable change (cp. Matthew 23:3, 5, 23, 25-28; John 2:12-17).

II. Jesus is Greater Than Jonah (Matthew 12:38-41)

  • Now, why might Jesus be "greater than Jonah?"

                 - Jesus preceded His claim to Lordship by a greater sign -- the Resurrection.

                 - Yet, Jesus is also greater than Jonah in His Love for mankind (John 3:16).

  • Lesson Learned...

III.  Jesus is Greater Than Solomon (Matthew 12:42)
