The Mindset Needed to Lead a God-Shaped Life in 2017

Many of us naturally take time to reflect on our circumstances and evaluate ourselves at the dawn of a new year.

What needs attention? Is there anything I need to purge? Am I neglecting something that deserves more focus and energy? How are my priorities? Am I managing my time most effectively? Is my perspective healthy and balanced?

Above and beyond all other resolutions for the new year, do you want to lead a God-shaped life in 2017? If so, today's Bible reading reveals the mindset you will need.

For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. (2 Cor 11:2-3)

In order to lead a life shaped by God, I must have a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. What does this mindset look and sound like?

IDENTITY

I am not my own. I have been betrothed. I am Christ's and Christ is mine.

OBLIGATION

As one betrothed, I have the privilege and obligation to keep myself pure for him. I pledge to keep my mind, spirit, body, and reputation pure for his name's sake.

DIRECTION

My thoughts will be led by whatever or whomever I give my attention, focus, and energy. Someone reigns on the throne of my heart. If that person is anyone other than Christ--including me--my thoughts and allegiance will be led astray from where they were designed to be. I resolve that first and foremost, my thoughts will be led in paths of righteousness. Therefore, I will lead and feed my mind with God's word, prayer, and humble meditation, day by day.

RESOLUTION

I am devoted to Christ. I will sincerely seek first his kingdom and his righteousness in 2017.

Above and beyond all other resolutions for the new year, do you want to lead a God-shaped life in 2017? If so, use 2 Corinthians 11:2-3 to set your mind on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
