Inspiration for Your Prayers This Weekend

Today's Bible reading includes the first chapter of Paul's letter to the Philippians. In Philippians 1:9-11 he writes:

And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Take a moment to reflect on what Paul was praying for the saints in Philippi:

  • That their love would abound more and more
  • That their knowledge and discernment would flourish
  • That they would approve what is excellent
  • That they would be pure and blameless for the day of Christ
  • That they would be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus
  • So that in all things, God would be glorified and praised

What a great source of inspiration for our prayers this weekend!

Parents don't always know what to pray for their children. Why not follow Paul's lead this weekend? Pray for your children:

  • That their love would abound more and more
  • That their knowledge and discernment would flourish
  • That they would approve what is excellent
  • That they would be pure and blameless for the day of Christ
  • That they would be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus
  • So that in all things, God would be glorified and praised

Members of local churches don't always know what to pray for their congregation. Why not follow Paul's lead this weekend? Pray for your brothers and sisters in Christ:

  • That their love would abound more and more
  • That their knowledge and discernment would flourish
  • That they would approve what is excellent
  • That they would be pure and blameless for the day of Christ
  • That they would be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus
  • So that in all things, God would be glorified and praised

If we're honest, we don't always know to pray for ourselves. Why not follow Paul's lead this weekend? Pray for yourself:

  • That your love would abound more and more
  • That your knowledge and discernment would flourish
  • That you would approve what is excellent
  • That you would be pure and blameless for the day of Christ
  • That you would be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus
  • So that in all things, God would be glorified and praised

These are significant steps toward the confidence Paul described in Philippians 1:6.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
